I've been looking but can't find if the difference between a 8 ft box and a 6 3/4 if the length comes out of the front of the box or some out of the back.

It looks like it comes out of the front of the box from the pictures.
We have our truck back out of the shop and after I took it for a good run to let the computer adjust and between the new valve spring and one new coil it runs better that it has for awhile so I'm not longer in the mood to order a truck that isn't what I want so after we get home and I do a compression test on the cylinder with the bad valve spring, if it's good I'll do nothing if it's down it will be a new motor and I will still have the truck I want.

The length difference is forward of the rear axle.
The SC 4X4 with an 8' bed is my preferred truck. I'm not doing without my heated/vented seats and heated steering wheel, so when Ford dropped the SC Lariat, that put me in a CC.
Lots of people tow their 100k Brinkley on marginally maintained roads for boondocking. It's pretty easy to get stuck in soft ground and sand, so a 4X4 is a must for many people.
Since the 26 6.8 has pretty much the same hp/tq numbers as the 25 7.3, not so sure that upgrade is necessary for many.

Probably not a bad idea to check compression. With the hemi/canted valve configuration it's possible the one valve could have come in contact with the piston, but the 6.2 engines that I have heard about this failure, none had valve damage.

I'm thinking if it had any valve damage from contacting the piston it wouldn't idle and run as smooth as it is, I think I dodged a bullet but when we get home in April it's getting a good once over. The biggest worry is will another one break . I'm still wondering why I had no rocker arm noise but I've never had one break on a overhead cam.

The gas SCLB having the same fuel tank size as an RCLB is a wasted opportunity in getting say at 40 gallon tank in there to take up some of the wasted space.

5 star tuning dyno'd both, the 6.8 put more to the wheels stock and after tunes. Check out their site. Verification from all the youtube reviewers being surprised at the giddy-up of the 6.8 10r100 gets some credit as likely less parasitic losses but the shorter stroke and bit more compression gets some credit also. One guy towed all the hd trucks same loop and 10k lb cargo trailer and the 6.8 0-60 and quarter mile times were faster with the 6.8 as he actually tested them all from the dig with that trailer hooked up. Ghetty's garage hooked on up to 14k lbs and had all 4 spinning from a dig with the skinny pedal mashed and his reaction was hilarious 'jeeeeezus, this thing is AGGRESSIVE' lol
haven't really seen much comparison on the 7.3 10r100 vs 6.8 10r100 but by all accounts looking at the trucks 5-star dyno'd the 7.3 was a 10r100? go see if you can tell by the model/year and pic shown with the curves on the site.
i started researching hd gassers end of last summer and in 2-3 months i landed on ford and the 6.8 for what i was after, never even needed to drive any of them, now i'm 3500 kms in and as expected and happy af
No premium package on the XLT unless you also get the BAP. The only thing the XLT has going for it is power fold tow mirrors.
I went with the STX, better looking and LED headlights that you can only get on the XLT with the BAP. Thats an 8k upgrade on the XLT, no thanks.
But dang I miss those power fold mirrors... that's the only thing I wish I had in my STX, same with my 2017 too. All our other vehicles have them, except for mine, the one with ears as big as Jared Isaacman @ NASA...

And that's why it's not a stand alone option and priced walled behind XLT Premium.
I have gotten used to just pushing mine closed when parked in a tight situation, no biggie.
Mine's a 22, but the power folding mirrors and the front center console is why I went with an XLT (upgraded to a Value package) instead of the XL STX. The "leather" in the Lariat is why I didn't go above the XLT.

Max HP (what is advertised) does not tell the whole story. Not saying, or even implying, but here is a scenario where higher peak HP would not be preferable unless you are consistently doing a specific job, like drag racing. I would prefer the Green curve over the Red one for my purposes.
I really wish there were a standardized format for defining "power under the curve over a defined RPM", such as "average power between 20 and 80% of engine operating range". For instance, if an engine idles at 500 RPM and redlines at 6000, it would be the average power between 1600 - 4900 RPM, at say 100 RPM increments. This would tell a much more meaningful story, JMO. If such a thing exists, I've never heard of it.
