I have a 1990 F250 4x4 single cab with a 7.3l diesel engine and a 5-speed ZF transmission.Due to family requirements, I need to swop the existing single cab for a crew cab.Is such a swop possible having regard to inter alia the different chassis dimentions and what other diificulties can I expect?
i"m not positive but i really don"t think it can be done...big problem would be the box, the crew cab will be alot longer than the regular cab there fore there won"t be enough room in front of the box, unless maybe you swap the box for a short bed....

Yes, I would have to shorten the box.I am however more concerned about the question on how to fit the bigger cab on the shorter chassis of the regular cab truck due to the different chassis styles. The shorter chassis of the regular cab truck makes an upward bend right behind the cab. This cab rests on the front lower part of the chassis, whilst the box rests on the rear higher part of the chassis.
My problem thus is that the longer crew cab will now partly rest on the lower front part of the chassis and partly on the higher rear part of the chassis where the front portion of the box, which will have to be removed, would have rested.Any ideas on how to overcome this problem without having to lengthen the existing chassis? Would it be possible to cut out and to lift a portion of the rear floor board where it should be fastened to the higher part of the chassis?
Any ideas are appreciated.
well you could raise the rear beam that the cab mounts are in, that would lower the rear, or you could always use lift blocks in the front 4 mounts to level the front with the rear..i think that would work the best with the least amount of hassel..
The body lift would problably work !
one other thought is to channel it like we did on our street rods yrs ago
cut out the sheet metal where the frame kicks up to allow it to drop down over the frame then box it.
Somehow you would have to do something with the body mounts in the rear.
Might be a problem with rear seats also though
