Oil rail hex head bolt size

What does it mean that my oil rail has two different size hex head bolts? I thought they were the same? Don't the upgraded standpipes have a different size, or a Torx head? What is the hex head size? I seem to have lost my hex socket to fit the biggest one. Got a 10mm that's too small and some others that are too big.

T30 is the bit size. In most cases, the Torx drive is worn because the bolts are tightened too much.

The bolts only need to withstand minimal load. There is no reason to tighten them too much.

Replace them if the drive is worn.

Someone probably used the wrong bolts if you see installed hex bolts. Thread size is metric M6.

if that.s a 8mm thread it can become a issue if someone replaced the bolts with NON oem, op states a 10mm socket is to small try both a 12 and 13mm as those are the common head sizes used on a 8mm threaded bolt, a 10mm head is found more commonly on a 6mm thread

having been a euro tech we started having bolt head and thread pitch issues when the japan branded cars got popular, usa and euro had one metric standard, japan uses ISSO thread hense the odd bolt head and thread sizes

Dang, guys, I apologize. Miscommunicated. I meant the standpipe and dummy plug wrench sizes. On the driver's side, the front (dummy plug?) uses a bigger hex head than the rear. I think it's because I replaced the standpipes on this truck several years ago and prolly not the dummy plugs. I have the smaller hex head socket for the rear, but the one in front is in between the two sizes that I have. A little bigger than 10mm but smaller than the next larger I have, but I can't make out the size on that old socket. Didn't want to buy another set, and most that I saw ended at 10mm anyway.

10mm is old style
12mm is new style.
These cheap Chinese chisels often have a 12 mm hexagon. You can use one of these to make a suitable wrench.

Or you can buy an adapter for a socket wrench, which is what I have.

Perfect guys. I thought that's what it would be. There's a small 3-piece set of hex head sockets at the parts house with larger sizes including a 12mm. Just didn't want it to turn out that I needed an 11 or 13.

OK, It was the 12mm. Still got hosed, LOL. O'Reilly's had a 3-socket set for $18 that had a 12mm and two other even larger that I didn't need. But that also had a returned item that had one of the larger sockets missing the they wanted only $14 for. That didn't seem fair, and I had the larger sizes, so I went to a couple of other places to find just a single size 12. AutoZone had one, and I just grabbed it and went to the register. It was $18. grrrrr LOL, I just bought it, but shoulda got the $14 2-socket package at OReilly's.

Worked fine, I got the oil rail off, injector replaced and almost back together. Thanks. I'm going to post a different issue in a new thread.
