When putting my 96 bronco into drive it has about a 5-6 delay before engaging and have to rev it up, once its engaged it dosnt feel like its slipping and will pull its own weight fine, checked line pressure and was at 60psi cold, went up to 120psi when revving up, acts like the fluid level is low but level is full and fluid is red and does not smell burnt, leaning towards a bad epc or filter plugged, any other ideas?, i know there's a guy named Mark kovalski that is pretty smart on these.

If the EPC were bad, or the filter were plugged, you would have very low or no line pressure. And the only way the filter will get plugged is if the transmission has self destructed. I don't think either one is your problem. I'm guessing you have a bad seal in the forward clutch.

What is the pressure doing when it won't engage?
Just checked line psi with a new gauge as the old one i had was about 20 years old and line pressure is low, startup it went to 60 then jumped down to 15-30psi and is erratic, when revving up itll bounce between 70-90psi and is erratic, that old gauge led me down a bad path and changes things
Here is a chart of what the line pressure should be.
thank you a bunch!!, going to try replacing the solenoid pack due to the low and erratic readings, filter as I had a similar issue before except it set a fault for the solenoid pack and I replaced it with a junkyard one with unknown mileage, the trans has about 150k on a complete overhaul.
*update*, after replacing the solenoid pack, filter/fluid the issue went away, however I fully believe the filter seal was bad as when I dropped the pan the filter just fell right out with the pan so I believe the pump was sucking air.
