In my case the TCU didn’t drain the batteries. I frequently would let it sit all weekend without use. I would ride my motorcycle instead. It’s a lot more fun to ride. It will be interesting to see if the TCU is draining your battery or if there is another reason.
My bum TCU didn't drain the battery either. My truck also sits quite a lot as I have another daily driver. I zip tied a battery tender under the hood and have a cord running out under the grille. So the truck is plugged into that most of the time now.
It avoids me getting the battery saver mode warnings that turns off remote functions.

Just had my telematics module replaced for the 3rd time last week. I've since turned off the OTA updates since they seem to be bricking the module.
The first thing that I did after I got my TCU replaced last month is I turned off OTA updates. The next day Ford wanted to do another update. The screen had a message wanting me to turn updates back on. I got a couple of those messages wanting me to turn updates back on. No more messages lately. I’ll probably get them again the next time Ford wants to do another update.
Picked up my truck today. In my particular problem they replaced the RTM (remote transceiver module). Once this was replaced the battery was checked and found to be working fine. By replacing the RTM all fault codes found had cleared. When I drove the truck home, everything was working as it should. Glad to have my truck back.

That’s great that you got yours fixed already. Did they tell you what caused the module to fail?
My truck was dropped off at Dealer on Jan 14th for a recall update to rear camera system. Truck has not had an OTA update since May 2025 after a failed OTA update back then BRICKED the system....At dealer the recall software update would not load and complete at service dept. After 2 weeks at Dealer the TCU and APIM module replaced. Same issue no communication, no software update loading, entire communication system is dead in the water. Ford tells dealer my battery is weak, after weekend charge same issue communication is dead. Dealer technician has 35 labor hours trying to fix the software issues. Dealer now contacts Ford for more guidance and Ford engineering's server is BRICKED and down since Monday. This is almost getting comical and besides customer frustration, I now regret my purchase. Thank goodness I am still under 3/36 warranty. Ford has to do better than this. Hey FORD ARE you listening?

I had an issue where the traction control button never worked since Day 1. Modules reprogrammed, modules replaced, dash button replaced, etc. Then the TCU went bad in the midst of this.
10 months and countless contacts between dealer tech and Ford Engineering. The traction control problem was still unresolved when the truck went in for TCU replacement. When I got truck back, traction control was functioning and TCU was fixed. I don’t think I ever did get an explanation for the traction control thing.
I contacted Ford and asked for a little something complimentary for 10 months and several trips of inconvenience. Maybe a couple of oil changes. They ended up giving me a free 3 year maintenance agreement. So far I’ve had the local Mobile Service come to the house twice for The Works.
