I recently pulled the motor to reseal the bedplate, etc 307,000 miles!!. Im at the point now installing ARP headstuds for the first time. I have all of them hand tightened except one that would only go in about a third of the way but could be tightend further, but no where near all the way, with a ratchet. I stopped there and swapped with other studs with the same results. All the holes were cleaned out with brake clean and air. I grabbed a couple of the old head bolts and they hand tightened all the way with no issues. I ran a tap in several times to make sure the threads were clean and still the same results. Also put a very light coat of lube on the threads which didn't make a difference. I tightend the stud in with a wrench to about 1/4 inch from the bottom but haven't put the nut on the studs yet. Before I go any further I want to see if anyone else has had this issue and what they did. Thank you in advance and its been a while since I posted last. Hope everyone is doing well!
My install a few months ago. I had questions about the studs and got some good answers here. To clean the threads I used brakeclean and air. Also took an old head bolt and cut grooves in it similar to how a tap looks. I used that to help clean the threads too.
