Welcome to FTE. I moved you to your own thread for clarity and to make it easier to ask additional questions if need be.

U90 = LT900 Diesel (Badged L or LT9000)

T = Detroit 8V-71N diesel engine

V = Kentucky Truck Plant

M13434 = 1971 numerical series, July 1971 production

186 = 186 inch wheelbase

LS
L = Dark Green
S = Lime Gold Metallic

U900 = LT900 Diesel, 43,000 lbs GVWR. Note this differs from your warranty plate which shows 57,000. Since the truck was a special order, the GVWR was probably part of the deal

AE2
AE = Medium Gray Vinyl
2 = Custom Cab with butterfly hood

R = Data (Spicer) model 8716 sixteen speed OD transmission

GVS
GV = Not found in the 1971 Shop Manual list of tandem axles. Please recheck!
S = Rockwell (Timken) model FH-901 front axle, 16,000 lbs capacity, with power steering

57000 = 57,000 lbs GVWR

236 1750 = 236 certified net HP @ 1750 RPM

150770
15 = Newark District Sales Office
0770 = Special Order Number

All the usual "special order" items are present--engine, trans, axles, paint. So my guess is to get this kind of a vehicle it was a special order to start with as the buyer for this type of truck usually has a list of things they want.

Thanks for the quick reply. It appears a lot has changed with the truck over the years.
The rear axle code could be CV

The truck now has a 290 HP Cummins Big Cam and a 13 speed.

I am looking for a bellhousing if anyone has any recommendations on that also.

I have been looking at the aftermarket one from AKMI. Has anyone used one? If there is a better place to post this please let me know where.

That bell housing should be SAE #2, very common. Are there no salvage yards near you? No general location in your avatar

Big Cam Cummins was not available in 71, they were still producing the earlier Small Cam version at that time. So either the truck has had a engine and transmission swap or the cab has been swapped onto a different chassis
The bell housing you mentioned are you needing the flywheel housing that bolts to the engine block and has mounting provisions for the rear engine mounts, or is it the small bell adapter containing the clutch fork assembly that bolts to the front of the transmission case and attaches to the flywheel housing
Cat and Cummins 6 cylinder diesel’s in L model Fords to not set straight up like in most other brands, the engines lean to the right, the flywheel housing is made to mount the engine at this leaning angle but is drilled to keep the transmission flat. Only L model fords and some GM models mounted these engines at a angle so replacement flywheel housings are a bit more difficult to find but one from any L model Ford equipped with a Big cam Cummins from 250 hp up to 400 hp will work
As for the transmission bell adapter one from most any Eaton transmission of it’s series should fit, check the tag on the right side of the transmission case to find what series it is

Final note: when changing the flywheel housing on a Cummins runout must be checked with a dial indicator attached to the flywheel to insure the housing is centered to the crankshaft
When replacing a broken flywheel housing in my 83 Pete the replacement housing was off center by .050, we removed the dowel pins, centered the housing and redrilled the dowel pin holes next size bigger dowel pin to hold the housing in centerline

Bellhousing information

Thanks for all of the great information. I am not sure if the engine has been replaced or if the door tag has been changed. Is there another place on the chassis that has the number stamped, like newer light duty trucks do? The engine side of the bellhousing is what needs replaced. There are cracks at the starter.

Recently, we've gotten reports of VINs spotted on the side of the frame rails as well.
