E1 = Eaton model 16244 two speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 5.57 / 7.75 ratios

24000 = 24,000 lbs GVWR
87 = Body Company. This comes up for U-Haul or Fire truck sometimes. What's on the back of it?
No special order.

Reason: correction
Truck used to have a water tank on the back from what I have been told. Strange that is says it had a Cummins, must have been swapped out. It has a CAT 3208 in it now. Also if I am not mistaken it also has an 8 speed but I will have to take another look. Thank you for your helpful information.
The transmission code "Z" is the Clark 397V for that year. If you are thinking the red button on the stick is a splitter in the transmission, that's not it--it's the two speed rear axle.
