Louisville Decode
I seem to have started a Louisville collection, and my latest one is a 76 that’s been repowered with a Cummins 290, but I’m curious what it had originally as I suspect a 2 stroke Detroit based on a few clues. Here’s the data plate on the door, if anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it greatly!
I'm giving you your own thread so your info will be in one thread if you have futher questions.
U91 = LT900 diesel (badged and referred to as LT9000)
V = Cummins NTC290 six cylinder diesel engine, 855 CID --OR-- Caterpillar V-175 eight cylinder diesel, 522 CID, a Cat 1100 series engine. (Probably the Cummins as OEM)
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
A88144 = 1976 numerical series, November 1975 production
162 = 162 inch wheelbase
M3
M = Wimbledon White
3 = Tan (this doesn't look right--does this truck look like it was repainted?) (3 also comes up as bright green for '76)
U914 = LT900 diesel, 44,800 lbs GVWR (badged and referred to as LT9000)
H8
H = possibly tobacco colored vinyl
8 = Custom cab without butterfly hood
AJ
A = "Fan clutch in sound package or engine less California emission. (This is the Auxiliary Transmission Code, but several of the codes are for this sort of thing. Only model year 1978 shows for this.)
J = Fuller model RTO-9513 13 speed overdrive transmission
D2P
D2 = Rockwell (Timken) model SQHD tandem rear axles, with Hendrickson Suspension, 38,000 lbs capacity, 4.44 ratio
P = Rockwell (Timken) model FF-903 front axle, 12,000 lbs capacity, with power steering
44800 = 44,800 lbs GVWR
450364
45 = Lansing District Sales Office
0364 = Special Order Number

Thank You!!!!
All of that makes sense . The truck has been blue and red since it was painted at the factory, and the seats are definitely both a “tobacco brown”
The wheelbase, axles, suspension and transmission are all still original, it seems. The engine is odd though- it was sold to me as having a 400 Cummins and has a big cam aftercooler that was not on a 290. When I run the ESN with Cummins, however, it comes back as a 1980 290 Big Cam. Because the fuel pump numbers don’t match the ESN I suspect it’s been repowered to 400 specs with a newer block. It certainly pulls like a 400.
and the fact that it was ordered out of the Lansing district tells me it’s probably been a Michigan truck it’s whole life. It was on at least 3 different farms prior to me buying it.
