F700 Decode request
I have an F700 that needs a lot of love. A paint job, a windshield, and an extensive tune up including a carb rebuild or replace.
I'd like to know what I'm getting into with the engine, trans, and axle. I don't know what year it is, or what engine.
The numbers are as best I can tell as follows
VIN plate on the driver's door
F70EVAH2018
212 JT F704 418 M E8M
24000 21
E = 361 4V XD FT gas V8
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
AH2018 = 1978 numerical series, September 1977 production
212 = 212 inch wheelbase
JT
J = Rangoon Red
T = Red
Two reds are better than one I suppose. Saw this before with two different reds. No idea what's up with that.
F704 = F700 gas, 24,000 lbs GVWR
418
41 = Probably black HD vinyl. I don't have this info for '78 but 4 is usually black vinyl for this era.
8 = Cab and chassis vehicle. In conjunction with the "41", standard cab.
M = Clark model 285V five speed direct transmission
E8M
E8 = Not listed. Could it be "E3"?
E3 = Eaton model 16244 two speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 6.50 / 9.04 ratios
M = Ford 7,000 lb capacity front axle with power steering.
24000 = 24,000 lbs GVWR (in line with the axles listed if it's E3)
21 = Atlanta District Sales Office
No special order.
Windshield is the same as a pickup and other big trucks for several model years. Info here including NAGS number:

Tuneup--if you still have points, they are the same as any late '50s to the end of time single point Ford V8. Ditto cap & rotor. Wires same for all FE/FT only because of length.
Carb: On the choke tower RH side you will find the LIST number. With that you can get the right kit. Your carb should be a governed Holley 4bbl, or a carb sitting on a governor device.
