1981 f700 question

Gentlemen, I have a question for you. I have a 1981 F700 with the 370 4v motor. I just changed the valve cover gaskets and the oil. When I went to put oil back in, nothing is registering on the dipstick. I put 6 quarts in but still nothing. I have given it several hours. Any advice on what could be going on, and what is the best solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know that particular motor, but many of the old trucks had a 9 quart pan. I agree, something should show at 6. Run a piece of wire down to the bottom of the pan and compare that with the dip stick

the oil pan capacity should be 8qts for a 370-429 ford truck engine, if it is a deep pan .slowly add 1 qt at a time until it register on the dip stick

No oil

I checked the plug and had oil there. Added another gallon and it was spot on. Thank you for all your advise.

For future readers: 10 quarts total brought the level to the Full mark in the dipstick?
