Vin. Id Help

Does anyone know where or what source I can go to help me decode my VIN?

Vin numbers really don't tell much about a truck,most of the real info is in the rest of the rating plate.

Why not just post it here and leave out the last 3 digits ?

Go to http://www.dennis-carpenter.com in there parts catolog they break down the VIN numbers.

Ok here is my vin:
F25YRG71503
Color: 5
Body:K
Axle: 4
Trans: G
Axle C8

How do I know if the truck was a ranger or camper special.

You can usually tell by looking at the nameplates on the side

Ok here is my vin:
F25YRG71503

F25 = F250

Y = 360

R= San Jose

G71503 = Consecutive build number (1970)

Color: 5 = Diamond Blue

Body:K = Medium Blue Woven Plastic & Blue Vinyl Seat

Axle 4 = (This doesn't make any sense to me) More info req'd

Trans: G = Automatic (C4)

Axle C8 = 3.73 L/S axle (5200lb Dana 60)

Thanks for your time. I think I wrote the trans. code wrong as the truck has a 360 and I think they did not offer a c4 with a FE?

What is trans code C?
Some one before me had removed all the nameplates, chrome trim (welded the holes) and it looks like a custom.
I really hate that as I love the Ranger chome. Ford ad more chome on a Ford ranger than they do now of 4 new ones!!

If all the outside stuff is gone, evidence of a Ranger heritage would be woodgrain around the dash cluster, carpet, thin chrome strip running from heater controls around glove box door and back to the radio bezel. Camper Special stuff is mostly heavier suspension, battery etc. Did you check under the seat to see if maybe the build sheet is still tucked into the springs?
