Still mocking up parts, working on the color scheme, which is evolving into patina with all the trim, running boards, suspension, etc being black.
It'll look like an old truck, but essentially be a brand new truck. I know it'll offend some people, but I like it.
Right up my alley. That was/is exactly my view. Mine at this point is basically new but I did not weld up any of the small rusted through areas like you are doing. Beyond my skill set and it paging someone else wasn't practical. Maybe in a few years if I get the itch I can have a go at it. But for now, it's just the way I like it.
Engine is almost in, just refining the mounts before they get welded in. Unfortunately, I had to cut into the firewall, but only about an inch.
I'll have to alter the stock trans cover and make a tunnel part way through the cab. Still hoping to keep the cab crossmember, but I may have to notch it for the driveshaft.
Looks like I should be able to use the stock exhaust, which saves me a few thousand dollars.
The new for 9 inch arrived too, just starting to mock it up, hopefully I'll get it and the rear 4 link in before the weather turns and I call it for the year...
I'm liking what you're doing. If I ever get to do another F-100 I think I would like to do a natural patina truck. The rear housing looks pretty wide. Are you going to be narrowing it? What size gears are you planning on running?

Greetings 53patina,
I just want to share an upgrade I made to my horns. Noting the engine installation, I am assuming you are going to a 12 volt system.
The original horns sounded a bit anemic in my opinion, so I picked up a pair of '57 horns from Bob Drake Ford Restoration Parts that have a very pronounced "wake-up" note. I used the original mounting holes on the core support and fashioned mounting brackets from 16 gauge sheet metal. I'm sharing some pictures and I saved the paper templates. I would be happy to share them if you like what you see. Driver side bracket Driver side horn installed Passenger side horn installed Passenger side horn bracket The horns.
Do you have the part number for the horns at Bob Drake?
I humbly apologize. I think I was having a "senior moment" when I said Bob Drake. I actually got them from Dennis Carpenter Restoration. Here are the part Numbers: That
B7A-13832-A (High Pitch)
B7A-13832-B (Low Pitch)
I gotta warn you, the price went up. I purchased the set back in January of this year for $52.95 each. I looked them up just now and my jaw about hit the floor. They are $74.95 each!! I'm willing to bet they are at the new tariff price. So sorry. That said, they really sound bitchin' and if I didn't already have them installed, and knowing what they sound like, I think I would pony up the cash. If I knew how to send a sound sample I would.

Thanks!
The rear housing was made (hopefully) exactly the right width for my rims and so I don't have to cut or tub it.
Thanks for the heads up on the horns.
They arrived and I installed them on my truck.
They look awesome. I was able to use the original right horn mount and I modified the left horn mount that was not original, since I do not have a custom cab.

I'm glad you were able to get the duel horns setup. I don't know if you have been able to put power to them, but I know you will not be disappointed. Your truck is looking awesome! Continued success.
