Same with me, no problems in drive throughs until after the Oct. flash. Now I get asked occasionally to shut it down and I've just gotten in the habit of going ahead and killing the motor when I pull in.
Mine is the same, quiet when purchased---noisy since flash last month. Is there anything that can be done toreturn to old pgm. There was no problem with truck. It pulled great with a 1200 lb trailer, and I loved it. Now noisy and poorer fule mileage.
Well....I guess I'll post here (even though I'll likely be shunned like mn 6.0 for not owning a 6.0L).
One of the reasons I wanted a diesel engine was because I love the way they sound. Of the three, I have always thought that the Cummins sounded more like a "real" diesel than either the PSD or the Duramax. I still feel this way. You can't get that "big rig" sound out of either the Duramax or the PSD like you can the Cummins.
Regarding volume, on more than one occasion I have had a 6.0L or a Duramax pull up next to me at a stop light and I could hear their engine idling over mine...and this was with the windows up. I don't honestly KNOW which one is "technically" the quietest, but I know what I hear. The drive thru issue is never a problem for me, although there was one time I did shut it down because I couldn't hear what the person on the other end was saying. I think that was a speaker problem though because I couldn't hardly hear them with it off either.
Anyway...whether it's THE quietest or not...I love my Cummins engine. I just wish I could have gotten it in a Ford (although I have no complaints about my Dodge).
My 6.0 was quit and ran great-Then came the flashes- 1st one lost power and gas mileage down to 13.5. 2nd flash little better gas milage 14.6, but lost the quiet, twice as loud as when it was new,and starts different, and still does not run as good as when 1st got it. Going in tomorrow to check on next flash, anb to see about getting the new tubo that on 2004?

How do we figure out what stupid flash is loaded? Would be nice to identify the good vs bad numbers like maybe a re 3.5 runs slow and rev 3.6 runs loud.
Keep us posted on flashes! Any official web site from Ford about flashes? My dealer said is your truck running rough? No. Then dont worry about a flash.
I too would like to see a duramax web site like this. Surely they have problems, may make ours look simple and maybe we should be happy? I can take the noise its the smell that is getting to me.

The duramax is quietest followed by the cummins and the 6.0 sounds like the 7.3 compared to the other two, as a side note the new cummins 600 will be the quietest one yet, I see where people say it's a diesel, who cares, but it's the future in diesel, so it's only going to get quieter, at first I thought this was dumn, but it seems to grow on yah.
PSDWANABE I checked the calibration update list you suggested but the numbers at the top don't go along with the program calibration number that my truck just had. I can only guess that it was one of the reflash that everyone is talking about, as my truck is now noisier, on startup especially, and has a low resonant rumble at idle that is somewhat irritating. I mentioned this to the mechanic a few days later and he said to get used to it, SWELL! Anyway it someone could tell me what I just had done to my 6.0L I would be thankful. The program that was done had a # 03B06 a cold calibration enhancement, and also a #03B05 replacement of a ICP Sensor. None of these numbers were on the update list. I would also like to know when my 6.0L was built, any help there?

Here's a GM truck page with a dmax forum. I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for compared to the 6.0 forum here and elsewhere, though. I, at least, was a lot happier with my dmax than I am with the 6.0. I'm still holding out hope that Ford will eventually make it right, though.
On page 1 I found at least three post dealing with problems folks were having.
Also, I was listening to the synergyn auto talk show last weekend and a guy called in who has a fleet of Duramax's and he was asking about problems with failed injectors happening time and again. Obviously the injectors are the weak link on the Diesel motor and can fail regardless of the manufacturer of the motor. The guy from synergyn of course gave his sales pitch about how crappy the available diesel fuel is and that everyone should be using their diesel supplement.
Delawhere?:
I had 03B06 done to mine, they used the most current flask which was dated in Oct. It seems that the one called for in 03B06 when it was written caused other problems. So does the Oct. one. Wish I never saw a Ford dealer after purchase.
Jon
Sounds like the duramax's are having simular problems as the 6.0, but the 6.0 is a computer related problem, not an actual mechanical problem. I think i would still buy a 6.0 over a duramax, knowing that ford is doing something about the problems. Ford gets a bad rap for buying back 500 trucks, but atleast they are doing something about it, instead of claiming no responsibility. I have to say, that takes real guts, something GM does not have.
You found 3. Wow. Now tell us how many you found on the 6.0 main page here. Wouldn't it be great to only find 3 of them there? The dmax's may be having some problems with injectors from dirty fuel and low filtering capacity but it's certainly nothing even on the same scale as the problems the 6.0's have had.
The 6.0 has a lot of mechanical issues along with the poor programming. Injectors, turbos and rear main seals top the list but those aren't the only ones.
I want to like my 6.0 but having an owned a dmax, I know what the difference is. So far, the 6.0 has been a disappointment. I'm hoping the newest re-flash, which I'm getting today, will improve things.
