This is a new one!
1975 F100 with 360FE.. I was driving and the truck overheated and blew water/prestone everywhere. I opened the hood expecting a blown hose, or hole in the rad etc. Nothing!
After we got it to the shop,, investigated some more,, we were down to a stuck thermostat. As i took off the thermostat housing, we found the thermostat went past the gasket and fell into the front of the intake. How could this possibly make the truck overheat?
I bought a new thermostat (even though the old one seemed fine) and made a stainless plate so it couldn't fall backwards into the intake again. It seemed the gasket was the only thing holding it in place.
Anyone ever had this problem? seems very odd to me
Agreed with above, I don't think the t-stat should just fall into the intake. I am thinking wrong t-stat or there is some severe corrosion on the intake.
How old is the radiator cap? Know anyone with a cap tester? Maybe it is not holding pressure like it is supposed to causing it to boil over?
