1997 7.3 315xxx automatic 4x4 e40d. I'm trying to chase down a Idle flucuation issue. Slowly been getting worse as time goes on before it would go up 50 60 rpm every few seconds, now it happens almost all the time. While waiting for a compression tester I decided to use forscan to look at some data everything seems to be okay except cam leve low? Also now out of nowhere even when just accelerating from 50 to 60 not aggressively but I'd say medium I blow black smoke. Only with my hydra set on a tune though so I'm not sure if that's part of the issue. I'm thinking maybe bad orings on injectors? Bad Injectors? Hoping it's not piston rings but I will update when I have the compression tester. I put on a mellings lpop, replaced turbo pedestal o rings installed hpop cross over, replaced IPR with RR, ICP doesn't have oil in plug but thinking about changing that out as well just for good measure. Has a crappy k and n air filter waiting for RR to have the 6637 in stock again. Tomorrow I will be pulling the valve covers off and looking at wiring and seeing if I have oil coming from injectors other than spouts. Also surging while driving.
Wonder if its hydra tuning, Set it to default and run it.
Do you have a leaking LPOP seal? That can introduce air in system making for erratic idle.
Wgen i bought the truck it had a edge cs2 on it, I ran it for a bit. Then the cs2 would shut down randomly so, I put it to stock the took it out and drove it stock. Still had the idle issue. I replaced the LPOP with a mellings I made sure both surfaces were clean and new oring came installed. The only oil leak I have is somewhere in the valley or the back of the block. I just replaced turbo pedestal o rings a few months ago so should be those but I'll have to look closer.
That cleared up a lot of my idle after running a tank through
i was doing that but read that it was bad for the injectors due to due detergents, was going to do more research. I also use hotshot stiction eliminator in every oil change.
