Having been here without the factory tow package-
SOME of the wiring is already there.
The cab has the controller wires in the harness,
but underhood and along the frame does not.
You end up adding pins and wires to the chassis side
connector, and it's kind of a pain. If I had to do it again, I'd
avoid the factory wiring and instead add my own.
If you HAVE the tow package, adaptors are almost plug- and- stop-
I like the Tekonsha, myself, and that requires attaching it to a universal pigtail.
Hit Man X: Owned truck for thee years. Truck has a tow bumper and seven pin plug that plugs into wiring harness. Does not have extra transmission cooling.
Thanks everyone for replies. I do have a Tekonsha that I had used on another F150 that would have to be hardwired. Unfortunately it is in a box in storage. Storage unit is scheduled to be emptied in three weeks. Someone mentioned how much towing which would be very little and the heaviest would be a 1964 Triumph Spitfire @ 1500 lbs plus trailer.

The trailer I tow has hydraulic surge brake tongue on it, not electric.
I wouldn’t even bother, sure it helps, but your going to be under 2500lbs with that combo.
when that much weight goes in the box you don’t put extra brakes on the truck, right?

well weight in the box isnt behind your truck and then suddenly attempting to push it when stopping
But its well in the safe range as well
If its pulled often, the brakes give the option to stabilize the trailer if it were to be sway-y, and it wears the truck brakes less
