well, if you go to a 4" straight pipe off your downpipe expect to scare small children and old ladies at stop lights, the inside of the truck wont be to loud, you will hear it, but not to the point of annoyance. Also, expect to hear your turbo more prominently
i believe your truck will have a 3.5" exhaust on it. And i dont think a 99 has a cat, maybe someone else can correct me on that. If it does have a cat, you will be hard pressed to find an exhaust shop that will remove it.
i was just gonna get a measurement and do it myself. it does have a cat and you're probably right about someone removing it--thats why i was trying to find out emissions req. here in az.im sure someone has replaced the stock exhaust with an aftermarket one that had to get emissioned.......anybody?
Take the muffler out, it will sound like it is a jet taking off when you do this.... The best part is you can hear the turbo alot more when you do this. You should like the results
Hey 99f250,I live in Tucson and i had no cat in my 96250 and got nailed for it at emissions. They told me that the really didnt start checking for cats on diesels untill this year.I still had my old one had it gutted out so its like straight pipe, welded it back in and passed.I lost alittle performance off the line from putting ti back in btu i'm getting ready to cut my muffler out and do straight pipe.Hope that info will help out.
99f250, The biggest drop in egt came when I replaced the Down Pipe. After that, I did my 4" straight from the DP all the way back and I only lost a max of 50* pf EGT. Needless to say I was dissapointed, but I am sure glad I did not spend a grand on one of those stainless steel systems. Try Ford part # F4TZ-5A212V that should be the frod cat delete pipe.
