Try Geno's garage, Gibson has a dual exhaust, two 3 1/2 " outlets, either side. I did hear that anything over 4" will lower low end torque a bit. The story goes that is you have under 1200 Ft-Lbs of torque dumping that much kills a little low end. It will keep the EGT's down. I talked with a guy at a perfromance shop who handles turbos, exhaust brakes and exhaust systems. He talked me out of the Gibson. Said it was loud tough.
Unless you truck was originally sold in california, you shouldnt have a cat. The super duties didnt get one. And running a straight pipe in place of your muffler wont hurt your emissions.
where dos the downpipe actually go. I always thought it was at the end of the exhaust but from the picture it actually looks like it replaces the cat??
Down pipe comes off your turbo and down to the first crossmember of your frame. (factory is one continuous pipe)
You must cut your existing down pipe before the crossmember with a sawzall, loosen the band clamp where the stock down pipe is connnected to the turbo and drop the stock pipe from the bottom.
is it normal that the down pipe is surronded by a metal. aluminum maybe, like a casing. On mine the casing starts on the pipe from the turbo down to where it turns to go under the truck. i dont know if that makes sense, but i figured that the cat was clamped right to the turbo housing and went imbetween the firewall and engine. But i guess the question is just remove from the turbo down to were the cat ends to put in this downpipe. I think i may order one tomorrow or monday. does anyone know of any good deals???
The metal surrounding it is a heat shield and yes it is normal. I have directions for removing a downpipe on a 94-97, but not anything newer, and i dont know what year truck you have. If you have this year, shoot me a pm and i will email it to you.
