4R100….rebuild AGAIN or replace….
Personally if I were running a v10 / 4r100, I’d bypass the in-radiator cooler when putting on the monster 6.0 trans cooler. I can’t imagine the BTU capacity of the huge 6.0 cooler not being significantly larger by itself than the stock in-radiator and tiny external trans coolers the gassers / 7.3L diesel got.
…
I can prove that it has NOT been detrimental to the transmission, as it is running Cooler than before this was done.
This is with a brand new Murray Radiator, Water Pump, and the 6.0 ATF cooler was brand new when this photo was snapped.
I towed this trailer from Price, Utah to Dawsonville, GA and the TFT never reached 200*, the trailer was loaded with a lot of heavy iron, Farm equipment,
( discs, turning plows, harrows, a 5th wheel attachment for the 99 Dodge RAM flatbed, and a monster Gun Safe, plus a Koenig tool box taller than the trailer and loaded with tools.
I'd recommend flushing the lines and replacing the 6.0 trans cooler you have. The other issue you're having seems to be that no one has installed a Magnetic filter in line to keep metal from destroying the transmission. This first happened to me February 2006 when mine went out. The Ford tech didn't install a magnetic filter and Ford had to replace my transmission again on their dime. I've since kept that filter inline (I change it every service) and that transmission lasted 15 years and 413,000 miles. The only reason I had to have it rebuilt again was because the torque converter blew up and sent Lisa Frank through my transmission.
