Researched this a lot a few years ago for my 05' Excursion with the V10. Long story short, you're stuck with what you got. You are right, it has been done but with a complete donor truck and all the bugs still couldn't be worked out with the swapping of computers there were still accessories that didn't work, lights flashing on the dash etc. And that was still after thousands of dollars and hours were spent on the swap.
I know how you feel but it's actually easier to do a whole Cummins swap with trans included.

I am just not the guy to do such a project. I would love to find a shop that does this sort of MOD
