2004 F350 acceleration problem
Here is a Youtube link to the turbo sound issue below. You can really start to hear the noise after 11-15 seconds:
I think EBP sensor issues can cause it, but it's usually associated to a sticking vgt unison ring or failing actuator.
I believe you can unplug the vvt solenoid on the turbo with it running to induce a change in vane position, which will make a noticeable change in the turbo/exhaust noise.
If you have a means to monitor live data yet (forscan or whatever) you can watch the vgt pid, it should change whenever you press the throttle.
Bismc mentioned earlier that it can also be commanded to different values with the full version of forscan ('Im not positive if he was just referring to forscan vs forscan lite, or the paid license version of forscan).
I said earlier that if you see 85% during normal operation that is indicative of a sticking vgt. That seemed to be the case on my 2004, but after a recent roadtrip in my 2005 I see that it goes to 85% at idle. That might be normal and a difference between tunes, or it might be an indication that my 2005 also has vgt issues.
Here is where I am at after today.
After cleaning the EGR and the EBP valve the check engine light is now off but I still have the same symptoms with no power and the turbo whooshing.
Codes:
DTC
P0299: turbo underboost
Cause: exhaust press sensor / VGT valve
Key on engine on:
P0299: turbo underboost
Cause: exhaust press sensor / VGT valve
P1408: EGR out of self test range
P2263: turbo boost performance
I will share updates as I learn more.
I unplugged the VGT sensor and let the truck warm up (The truck sounded much better!!).
The truck revs normally when in park.
I took it around the block and I still experienced the same symptoms from the original post.
With the VGT disconnected I have the following codes:
P0046: “Turbo/Supercharger Boost Control ‘A’ Circuit Range Performance.”
P0299: Turbo underboost (Same code received with VGT plugged in)
P1000: Engine control computer (ECC) has not completed its emission systems testing
P1408: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system flow is outside the expected range
P2263: Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost System Performance
I am now assuming this issue might be related to stuck vanes?
Is there any way to fix the sticking vanes without removing the turbo? Should I try a new VGT sensor?
