Hi everyone, I have a 14 f150 stx with a key with the buttons that doesn't work but will start the truck. I have a second key without the buttons with a separate fob that works and starts the truck. I just got a third key without the buttons with a separate fob that I want to program. I already have the new key cut. Could anyone give me a step by step on how to program it? I think I know how to program the key, cycling the old keys on then off after 5-10 seconds then sticking your new key in and turning it on, then the locks cycle. If this isn't the right way, let me know. I need help with the buttons on the fob. If I have to program more than one key let me know. Thank you
I'll try to find the pricedure to program the fobs, I've done it twice. And yes, it's different than programming the cut keys, two different procedures.
BTW, our trucks can rocognize 8 different keys, but only 4 different fobs, and it doesn't matter if the fob is part of the key, or seperate.
also, all fobs must be present and programmed during the procedure. If not, the missing fob will "be forgotten".
this is the procedure for fob programming, post up how it turns out for you
1. Close all doors then open drivers door press unlock button on drivers door while door is open . Insert key into ignition. Keep foot off brake pedal.
2. Turn ignition from Off to Run 8 times ending in Run ( Do not start the car, run position is just before the vehicle will start Off is turned all the way back when the key can be removed from the ignition ). Must be performed within 10 seconds. Locks will cycle signaling entering into programming mode.
3. Press any button on the remote being programmed, locks cycle confirming programming. Repeat this step for any addition remotes.
4. Turn key to off, locks will cycle to end programming mode.
This thread is awesome. Been packing around a key for awhile that needs programmed
Just went through cycle key 8 times hit fob button. Key fob now works doors but wont start truck. Its a fob off ebay that i had cut.
It works ignitiin fine just no cranky.
I tried programming the key not the buttons and it wouldn't work. I have 2 working keys. I put the first programmed key in the ignition, turned the ignition on and waited about 2 seconds after the chime stopped, turned it off, removed the key, inserted the second working key in, repeated the steps again, removed the second key and inserted the new key and turned it on. It would display an error message. Did I do anything wrong? My wife did accidentally put the new key in and tried starting the truck earlier this week which didn't work. Would this mess up programming the key?
Where did the second working key come from, is it an original Ford oem key, or a clone copy?
how long have you had the truck, do you know it's history, possible memory is already full with 8 keys.
did your friend have ForScan, that may help explain things.
The second key was a clone from a locksmith that works with the ford dealership I got the truck from. I've had the truck a year and a half and I don't know it's history or if the memory is full. I don't know anyone with ForScan

that's the answer, a clone is not a second key to the computer, the computer sees the clone the same as the first key.
you must have 2 different rfid chipped keys to program more into the system.
