Getting a duplicate key

Misplaced my only 2011 F-250 key this morning. Found the key, but realized I need a duplicate to avoid an expensive problem. The full-up key with door lock buttons and remote start is close to $400 by the time it's all done. I am looking for the just a plain key. Of course, they have chips for security. There's multiple sources for how to program a new key, but I am guessing that the chip is RFID and programming a new key will disable my old key. Can I program a new key to the same code as the old key? Is this worth going to the dealer?

Not exactly sure on a 2011, but I just did this on my '22 F550, got tired of the big a** fob, bought 2 new keys, followed the yt video on how to program (you have to have both remotes/fobs) and all of them work now and a huge + I don't have that big fob hanging out the ignition all the time. Programming a new key does not disable the old ones..

I believe to program a new transponder key to your truck yourself you need 2 existing keys at your disposal, IE key 1 and 2 need to be programmed with a programmer attached, then key 3 to 7? can be done cycling key 1 then key2 then stick in your next key and it takes that as a now authorized key.

You can easily get a blank key on fleabay with the remote entry & start for under 30, then you need to have it cut which is easy enough for most hardware like stores, but last you'll need that programmer to get this key into the computer which requires a locksmith or the stealership. I went to the stealership once to enquire, they said 200 for a plain jane (no remote entry, nothing, just rubber head) transponder key and programmed, went to a local locksmith, 60 key and programmed, 20 for 1 more key and he showed me the cycle, cycle, program deal on my 09.

No. It can be done DIY with Forscan w/extended license.

Here is a procedure to do it with forscan and a known, programmed key but I don't see why you couldn't erase all keys and then start over with any transponder key that just turns the tumbler at that point as the master and subsequent slaves.

There is a pretty good reason to, if possible, use the "Add another key" function to add a new key instead of erasing and reprogramming two keys.

If your "new" key is a dud, you're screwed if you did the second option until you get another key that isn't a dud.
