new key

Just bought a 99 F150. It has the anti theft system. I only got one key with it. I would like to add one. The locksmith I called quoted me $75 to make the key and program it. Can i get one cheaper and program it myself. I was told that I need two working keys to program one.

you need two keys to do it yourself. pay the $75 and get the second key, then buy a couple on e-bay and program yourself and save incase one gets lost.

The local ford dealership charged me 55 dollars for a second key. How do you program a key if you already have two? Thanks

To program a 3'rd key, put in one known key, cycle it from off to run, (do not start the engine) back to off. Repeat with 2'nd known key. Then put the new key in and do the same. It'll beep or ding or somethin' fancy if you succeded. It's in the manual if you have one.
