Good afternoon all,
Well I am back in a Super Duty this time a 2024 F350 (XL and 6.7 as per usual). I need a little help from the community please. The new tailgates have those black tie-down /bottle opener brackets on each side. I find that they catch the tailgate support table when you are closing it pinching and tearing up the able. At 1200 miles I am already replacing the cables. This is a strange design issue and if anyone knows what I am doing wrong please let me know. I want to add the support strut to the tailgate for softer open like I have to my 2019 and 2022 but the part number FL3Z-99406A10-A is not showing for the 23+/2024 series. I visually looked at where it mounts and the hinge and it seems like the same thing I would expect from my 22- has anyone installed this in a 23+ ? Is there an updated part number?
Re the tailgate tie downs, I find that annoying too. I found that if I partially close the tailgate, the cables pop past the tie downs, then slam the gate home. But slamming it in one fast motion will pinch them. Sometimes I forget. I thougt about just removing the tie downs. Looks easy to do, but for now I will live with it.
Can't help on the strut. My Lariat is already buffered.
Saw an advertisement for a locking hinge that replaces the cable and allows the tailgate to be locked into several positions from open to closed. Made of flat stock so it would eliminate the cable issues. Can’t remember where I saw it, most likely Facebook, but it looked to be of good quality.

-Thank you
I was fighting the same thing. I added a damper, bought on Amazon, and removed the little tie-down brackets. Those things frustrated the crap out of me - removing them while installing the damper was just perfect. Now the driver's side cable clears the damper and it closes perfectly every time. Easy peasy - and the soft opening is really nice to have.
Thank you for that!- I have now got it on order. I may look at adding some Teflon tubing on the cables or coating them with graphite. Have a great holiday weekend everyone, I greatly appreciate the responses.
