Bad enough that I’ve got the step so it’s super heavy, but the torsion rod, I guess, is stopping the left bushing on the gate from turning, which means getting the tailgate back on is almost impossible at the tailgate then has to be straight up and down and that’s all kinds of problematic. If that black piece with the insert would just turn a bit, this gate would be back on. Any ideas? Fixes?
It's really not that complicated. Line up and insert the tab on the left side, lift the gate to align the tab on the right and slide it down and on, attach cables.
I haven't had my tailgate off yet, and I don't have the step....but will that slotted insert come out of your tailgate? If so, take it out, put it on the mount on the bed, then slide your tailgate back on it.
I recall one of my past trucks having a notched rubber insert like that, and that's what I did.
That end just inserts, the other side has a slit that fits in the grove. I had mine off with the step a few weeks ago. Yes it's a little heavy and cumbersome but it will go back together with a little wiggling.
