is there a big issue with installing them in the truck? I have done it on 7.3s with no issue but it would just save a lot of time in my end since it’s with the cab on
The sleeves sit very tightly in the head . I think with cyl.#5,7,6 or 8 this might be a difficult job. I don't do it with the head installed, regardless of the cylinder.
I can't find any pictures of the tool to replace the injector sleeve in the head...somewhere on my computer are these. I also bought the tool from Accurate Diesel.
These stainless steel sleeves normally last the life of the engine. In my experience, it's always assembly failure that leads to problems.
Firstly, the hole for the injector hold down clamp bolt is not blown out with compressed air. As a result, the injector is not pressed onto the seal seat with the necessary force and the injector “hammers” the sleeve.
Secondly, the sleeve is not cleaned when the injector is changed. It is difficult to get to the sealing surface. I have designed a tool for this which you can make yourself with a 3D printer. You wrap a clean cloth around it and you can easily reach the sealing surface. If you have access to a printer, I can email you the stl file.
