This is embarrassing but I have to ask. I just got my new "51 F1 home yesterday. Because I had to park it on the street last night I thought I should lock the doors.
I locked the drivers side from the inside and got out but then put the passenger side door handle in the locked position. This was a grave mistake I believe. Once I shut the door, the door was locked.
I attempted the key to unlock but that didn't work. After reading many threads on FTE I believe that the door handle lock and the key lock are not connected.
I also read that the door handle ought to have popped out of the locked position while door is closing upon striker.
That didn't happen for me.
So now I am basically locked out even though I have the keys.
My question is does anyone have a clever solution to this dilemma?
Unfortunately, the locking mechanism by key is different than the mechanism by the inside door handle. As you have discovered, the key will not unlock the inside handle mechanism.
I'm afraid I don't know a clever way in, I'm not as familiar with the older truck. I can tell you the way more than one member has gained entry, but you won't like it. They have pried the rear window into the cab. (the rear window is installed/removed from the inside)
I hope someone else comes along with something better, but that's the only way I'm aware of.
I have heard that you can go up from underneath, thru the M/C fill hole, with a coat hanger and move the driver's door handle to the unlocked position. Seems like it could work.

Might be worth a shot. And save the chance of scratching paint or breaking the glass as a last resort.
Ok. This was a very lucky approach but it worked.
from the bottom of the door, i was able to fish a wire hanger up and latch it in to the handle. Once it was latched i pulled down gently then then quick and voila! The handle came down and unlocked it. This method required the assistance of my wife guiding me from the other door window. Just want to put this up here in case anyone else might find them in this predicament.
thanks for the advise above.
Thanks! I was in a sort of disbelief that I could be locked out of the truck while still having the keys in hand. I do think the handle, if in the locked position when closing door, should trip and unlock itself but mine doesn't do that on the passenger side. Lesson learned. Won't be making that mistake again.
