Fuel System Elec. Problems

So I have a 2008 F-150 5.4 3V. The other day it died after starting up and running for about 5-10 seconds. Wouldn't start at all after that. Did the normal easy checks like fuses and filters. Have tried replacing the module and both sensors on the fuel system. Figured out that it will start and run(roughly) with the fuel pressure regulator that is located on top of the engine, unplugged. As soon as I plug it back in it dies. Local mechanic thinks there's a short somewhere. I spent quite some time checking all the wiring and haven't found anything.

Anybody have a bright idea or have had this happen before?

Yes sir, the FPDM, the fuel pump regulator, and then my mechanic tried a sensor that's on top of the fuel tank. Not sure what that one is called...

With the old or new regulator it still dies once it's plugged in.

not sure what the fuel pump regulator is ? never heard of an external one on our year trucks, There is a fuel rail pressure sensor FRPS on the fuel rail itself.

You are right, it is the FRPS that is causing the truck to die. My guy was calling it a regulator and I didn't think otherwise. So when that sensor is plugged in it dies.

Interesting. I will try this on a 2004. The frame (near-axle) mounted module registered as a fault. i replaced it three (3) times to no help so I have direct wired both sides of it's feed. This is not a solution as the gas gauge won't work now and engine speed is limited. Tomorrow, I'll try what you suggest.

Look at gasket inside fpdm module plug it rolls and pushes plug apart ,pull it out and throw it away mines been gone for 15 years .. Use contact cleaner in plug pins . Clean the ground on rear axle it runs the fuel pump . In fact the fpdm switches that ground on and off to control fuel pump .
Check big connector under drivers side that wires run to the rear thru get mud out and clean with contact cleaner. Use electronic type contact cleaner ,other stuff can damage connectors .Look under drivers side there is a plastic cover over connector , It is bad about mud etc getting jammed in there.

To bypass fpdm for test you jump pins 2 to 3 on fpdm .

I don't find any gasket. The rest of the post is "spot on." You have done great. Thanks.
