More Fuel System Problems

Has anyone else been having fuel system problems? I lost the entire fuel system on of my 08's when the high pressure fuel pump failed and now I am having the same pre-system failure symptoms with my other 08. The symptoms being no acceleration just increased rpm's with top speeds as low as 27mph with the accelerator mashed to the floor.

Ford would not make any repairs to my other truck other than the low pressure fuel pump until they had a codes to go by. This resulted in many trips to the dealer, test drives and plenty of aggrevation. They stood by this stance even though the diesel tech said he thought it the HPFP all along. The complete system failure resulted in them having my truck for almost two weeks and I am sure it was a very expensive repair. I hope I can convince them to do something, like replace the HPFP, prior to the complete system failure this time.

No one is reporting this that I know of.

Does sound like a fuel pressure issue. Can you monitor your fuel rail pressures?

Just curious, did you keep your fuel filters changed on a regular basis? Also did you drain the water at least monthly? Have you used very much Bio? I have heard of this on another occasion and trying to see if there is any correlation in maintance or fuel used.

I am a stickler on the maintenance and drain water separator on a regular basis. I have never run bio in any of my trucks. I change fuel filters between 9000 and 9500.

You might pull the lower one and have a look.

I would also suggest pulling the upper one and shining a light into the fuel bowl and see if you have any tell tale signs of a HPFP failure. Course you'd have to re-prime if you did that.

I was at the dealership with the other truck this AM having the exhaust sensor replaced and I talked with the tech about my new fueling problem. He said he would test everything he could in order to try to keep me from going through the nightmare again. I am fixing to bring her in and let them have a look. Have to get the blend doors replaced as well. I will let you know what they come up with.

Wow the same failure on both of your trucks. That's some pretty bad luck you got there, especially since you kept up with maintenance on them. Good luck and hope you get everything worked out.

Cheezit, have you seen any HPFP failures on an 09 or 10? It seems like every one I hear about is an 08

IAN123, Thanks for the well wishes. It is totally aggrevating to say the least.

Slowmans, Yes they are both 08's.

CHEEZIT, Thanks for the well wishes and thanks for your honest input. I asked the service manager if this was a common problem and he said "No". Of course I realize what they tell their customers is usually BS. The aggrevating thing is the truck ran perfect all the way to the dealer.

seems like the bulk of p0088 codes liek to set shortly after regen. watch regens and see if the concern goes along with that.
Also keep in mind I works in a very heavy fleet shop, so I do tend to see the worst the world has to offer.

Cheezit,

Have you seen anything that causes this to happen more so than others. I rode around with a tech for at least four times with the first truck before he experienced it and even after that it passed the pressure tests and they did nothing. It had to totally blow the fuel system apart before they, being FORD, did anything.

all say that every one that i have taken the pump apart on has had some form of rust in in it and or inside the vcv/pcv chambers in the pump

you should really be running some form of fuel system additive like pm-22 to help reduce wear on the units. it also ups the c-tain by 4-5 points.
there are other simular chemicals out there pick one that is not an emulsifier and contains no alchols
