2017 f150 xl Windshield replacement. Which type?
My new to me (Oct) truck probably should have its windshield replaced. Many micro pits which were not noticed when I bought it
That alone is an interesting psychological story as "I swear they weren't there when I bought it" story.
Since I put on less than 3000mi and wasn't behind any sand/salt ect trucks they couldn't be new though.
I originally thought the stealership may have HID them somehow but many told me that wasn't possible. Paranoia..
Anyway so I just went and scheduled an appt. w/ Safelite. Was a cheap-ish thing.
I also went and gave our local shop a chance. I knew they probably couldn't match Safeco but if reasonably close enough.. I'll accept it.
BTW I already tried 0000 steel wool and detailing clay since as gathered from above couldn't POSSIBLY be road rash. Nada
Ruled out Cerium Oxide though most pitting was not feel-able.
Anyways back to the real issue.
Soo our local glass guy gave a quote w/ using not OEM glass but OEE (Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) ) acoustic glass.
Say what??
Price was reasonable so good for them.
But now I was faced wit hthis "acoustic glass" thing. Obviosly Safecos wasn't acoustic and just generic OEE.
But tried to check on line via chat..wasn't real productive but she said I did have a choice of OEM (more $) or not.
So I got the OEM quote thinking well can't go wrong with original parts (funny huh)
SOOO now I needed tocheck if the oem glass was "acoustic".
Logic says just call our local Ford place and ask the parts dept.
Well THAT was pointless. He never heard of "acoustic glass".
So I still didn't know if it was or wasn't ....
I'm going to skip a few steps here about looking on line for the info and going right to the truck itself.
Side windows listed acoustic glass. "Solar tint Acoustic Laminated"
Windshield did not say it. "Carlex Solar Tint Laminated AS1"
I actually wrote to Carlex to verify since going directly to FordCo semed a waste of time.
SO THE question..
OEM glass or
OEE acoustic glass?
The $ difference is OEM is $100 cheaper. BUT that's not the usual I suspect.
And fortunately not anything fancy attached to the windshield to make the cost ridiculous.
I do get my "Ford" thing but will lose my "Made in Kansas" sticker.

I haven't had noise issues w/ the current windshield. Is acoustic windshield glass just not that beneficial?
Why does everything that should be relatively straight forward get so messy?
Is it me?
Though I won't call my current windshield "the original" due to the truck being 6 plus years old when I bought it I did manage to figure out the glass
that is on there now.
This chart:
and my numbers off the windshield..
DW02130 GTY
So NOT acoustic..
Apparently some said I could have gotten OEM w/ acoustic.Ford pt # FL3Z 1503100 B or Carlex DW02131 GTY
Web search had the "B" version out of stock "due to supply issues"
Or other reasons..
https://parts.lakelandford.com/p/for...Z1503100B.html
didn't try too hard as it was sort of an already done deal or I wasn't going to order and DIY. .
If it wasn't a secondary vehicle I "may" have went with the OEE / acoustic.
Anyways OEM-ed w/ no acoustic treatment. All done. I'll survive....

Now to see if I can get a replacement sticker for the Kansas plant. Don't ask why..

Anyways she said there was one sticker request per VIN.
I'll keep this thread informed when I get more info.
I was actually surprised how fairly simple it was.
There is no time frame here...

It’s Missouri’s plant. The Chiefs are ours too, even though I’m not personally a fan of that team. I’ll take the tax revenue they generate 😄.

I'm pretty sure it's the first #. I called them about 2 years ago.
Hope it helps.
