Sorry for all the questions as im new to fords and i want to get as much info about this truck....I've been doing research on images on the web...I'm trying to figure out if this is the original tailgate or did the put a different year on it at some time. Im also attempting to take it apart as there appears to be a panel that unscrews
Hello Brad, yes it looks like some one put a 67-72 XLT tailgate on your truck. Notice how the top and bottom tailgate trim does not line up with the trim around the tail lights. And that one is opened by pulling the handle out/swings out ward and it has a hinge on the R/H side.
Yes the panel should be held on my some sheet metal screws, look on the back side of the tailgate for the heads. And the TG does not lift off like newer ones. You have to remove 2 bolts on one side of the other of the hinge.
And fold the hinges like this to get them off the TG latch. And leave them bolted to the truck bed.
Thanks why I asked the lines didn't look right and the base color is different...I think I may replace with correct year if a can find with correct trim
where you located? I have a base model tailgate. Used but in good condition. Would require drilling holes for trim though cause base models don’t have that.
