My '53 F100 has a 12 volt battery mounted on the firewall. I want to install a frame mounted "drop down" battery box. Recommendations on location, brand? Thanks --
Mine is mounted on the frame rail between the running board brackets on the pass side.. My truck sits low, so getting to the battery is impossible without a lift or a floor jack and jack stands.. Plus it's heavy and this old man with bad shoulders
can't do the weight... so I made a bracket that attaches to my floor jack to lower and raise it...more inconvenience . I wouldn't do it again. Seemed like a cool idea BEFORE installation. I added charging terminals in front of the front cab mount
for the trickle charger and jumper cables if needed.. here's mine home made from 1/8 stainless plate.
I too mounted a drop down box just under the cab. Like John i have a bad back and used a floor jack to raise it up into the lock position. My charging terminals like John's are just under my running board

I opted for a drop-down battery box in the original battery location...this leaves me the option of accessing the battery from the underside of the truck or through the OEM access panel under the carpet.

Makes sense. Good idea. Your box appears to be stainless steel. Do you recall the source?
I used the No Limit Engineering drop down battery box.
I do not have my cab back on yet so I do not know if it will clear without jacking up the truck. I am still going to use the original battery opening in the floor, if necessary. I also ran large welding cables to battery lugs under the hood for jumping the truck and hooking up engine electrical systems.
The PO had installed a battery on the right inner fender and it did a lot of damage.
