As the title says, when towing my trailer, as soon as I shift into reverse I immediately get the warning chime and message on the dash. As soon as I put it back in drive, all is good again. I’ve searched and didn’t see anyone else have this issue. I’ve replaced the bumper plug connector and packed it on both sides with dielectric grease, but it didn’t make any difference. The trailer does have reverse lights, (14’ dump trailer, all LED lights). I know how picky these new trucks are with voltage readings, could this be the problem? My small utility trailer with the flat-4 connector has no issue. Any thoughts/help would be appreciated, thanks.
(Thanks for asking, I totally forgot to update this).
Yes, it was the aftermarket tail lights on my trailer with the reverse light built in. When in reverse, it would throw the "trailer disconnected" message because the light was faulty in the circuit board. Dealer couldn't find any issues on the truck side. Took a while to trace it down. I have since added 2 small cube lights for reverse, and now all is well.
