Problem: Transmission will not shift into third under load. If I take my foot off the gas, wait a couple seconds, then get back on gently, it will shift. However, it then cannot make up its mind if it wants 3rd or OD.
Background: Original problem was no OD/intermittent OD, but everything else worked fine. Replaced torque converter and front pump. "Final drive" ratio seemed improved, but still no OD. Took apart transmission valve body/accumulator/etc, cleaned gunk out of channels, replaced.
After putting valve bodies back together, the shifting into third problem started. I redid my work, this time replacing the gaskets on the big steel plate, and also replacing the solenoid pack. Still no change.
Most recently I fixed slop in my shift lever and adjusted the shift cable. That improved 1st/2nd selection a bit, but still no 3rd unless I back off the gas.
I'm assuming it has to be related to the valve body stuff I did. Is it possible I put one of the ***** back in the wrong spot, causing this problem?
