Have 93 F150 XLT, 5.8 liter, automatic, 2 wheel drive. Transmission will not shift into high gear. Was given to me, over 250,000 miles. Should I start with transmission filter? Was working fine. Don’t have a clue which transmission it has. Sticker on door has “E” under transmission.
E4OD. When you say it wont shift into high gear, do you mean when placing it on the "D" selection without the light on the shift lever on, you cant move it? Or do you mean it will shift from 1st, into 2nd, into third, but not into overdrive?
You can test if its going into overdrive by hitting the OD button on the shift lever when over 40mph traveling on flat road. Is the speedometer correct too? If you feel the rpms drop when hitting the button, its going into OD. if you dont notice a change while driving and hitting it, its not going into od.
But describe your issue more, if it wont move in D but will in 2 or 1 that is a different issue
The overdrive button is missing. When I put it in drive, it takes off, but only shifts once.
what do you mean MISSING? Can you send a picture of your dash cluster and your shift lever. if you have a stock trans and shift lever its a button on the end of the shift lever. it cant be missing unless you had a truck with a c6 which wouldnt have a circle around the "D" on the dash cluster either.
First off, the fluid is full and the filter is clean (freshly serviced)
Your transmission has issues. Internal failure possibly a shift solenoid B malfunction
Loss of 3rd gear should be associated with a code (like P0758) 4th gear too, but worry about 3rd for now
Have the codes read at the Ford dealer or find a NGS
Forscan is an option for codes but a hassle IMO
To confirm what transmission we're working with crawl under the truck and compare to this chart posted below.
A picture of the transmission pan would be much appreciated too.
OP, youre going to want to fix your shifter handle to have the button. i would imagine you can probably swap the shifter handle or possibly the end of it
