High EGTs
Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction here with regard to EGTs. I've got a truck with the following:
- 190/30s
- 65mm VGT
- No Limit Fab 5" intake
- Driven Diesel regulated return w/ AEM lift pump
- DDPM Stage 1 cam, chromoly pushrods, 100 lb valve springs
The truck is running Gearhead tuning, in the full fuel tune. It monitors the EGTs through an Edge CTS3. While driving around 40 mph or so, it seems to run hot. Less than 1/4 throttle seems to be around 700-800*F, VGT @ 66%. Warm idle in park is around 360-370*F. There are no boost leaks, and the truck doesn't smoke much at all. The charger seems to light quickly too. Does anyone have any items to look at as far as why the EGTs would be around 100-200 degrees hotter than they have been in the past?

Sounds normal for a hot tune on a 6.0!
Do you run the full fuel tune all the time or do you switch back and forth between full fuel and something lighter like a tow tune? When I run my hot tune I can see my EGT's hit the 900s just driving around town and easily hit 1650 under WOT and I'm running 150/30 sticks. FWIW I'm done with hot tunes and my rig stays on tow tune for now on.
1, What is you egt at 70ish mph on flat highway?
2, ^What is your EOT and ECT at said speed?
3, Do you have a hung up caliper cause that can increase egt temps(Ask me how I know lol)
4, On cold engine with key on engine off what is your EBP, MAP, BARO?
5, What do you normally see for egt's?
Keep in mind you're running 190/30's on a full fuel tune so EGT are of course going to be higher even when at idle.

It is not my truck, it’s a buddy’s. I only got it around town, normal driving and up to 40-45 mph. It seemed crazy to me that it jumped to over 800 degrees just driving around but like you said it’s a large VGT with 190/30s.
It’s tough for me to say what’s normal and what isn’t for the truck on that tune when it’s not my personal truck - I can really only go off of what he says to me. He did have an up-pipe leak that made the truck float around 500 degrees idling. We have since fixed it and now it’s around 400.

Towing with a hot tune is just stupid lol, tell your buddy that. Keep the truck in hot tune then get all the readings/data when at full temp then switch it to a lower power tow tune and take all the reading again and post then both up. I see mid 700s going 110kph on my mild tow tune and around 550-700 between 60-80kph.
Hung up calipers will increase egt's as well at lower speeds so jack up the front end and if tires don't rotate freely for a good 5-10 seconds then that's for sure contributing to the higher numbers.
This is how freely a tire should spin:
This is a slightly hung up caliper causing resistance(worse will cause WAY more resistance and higher egt's at lower speeds):
This video shows my egt's being much higher at low speed due to a VERY hung up caliper:
Hope this help
