EGT Numbers

Howdy! So I have a 2001 F250 7.3 muffler deleted 6637 intake. I have a pillar pod with EGT, Tranny and boost.
With a (really old) Super Chip tuner On “performance” Everything else is stock. I could get 18 psi of boost pedal down. I then put a WW2 in and I could get 13 psi. EGTs we’re getting into 1350 getting up to 75 fairly easy. Lots of black smoke!

After a month I gathered the following items thru Full Force..

Bellowed up pipes
KC300X 63mm turbo
EBPV deleted pedestal
Riff Raff boots and clamps
Strictly Diesel- Bowl Delete Regulated Return w/ post pump filter, Hutch mod w/pre pump filter.
New Boch fuel pump
Intake Plenum reinforcement
Up-Pipe clamp
I also took my CCV and dumped it down with a 4’ hose and plugged the intake hole.
and I think that’s all!

With all that installed and tested, I have done a break stand test and actually spun the rear wheels while I was under the hood with absolutely No smoke!

Now! My problem! Between 45mph and 75mph my EGT’s are almost identical to my speed, Eg. 55mph is running 550* 70mph 700* and idle in park is 2200*
Pedal down I can get to 1300* at 23psi of boost.
Are my EGTs too high?
And is that good boost?
Could my intercooler have a hole? Has anyone heard of blowing you’re intercooler?

Thanks Y’all!

I'm guessing that your idle number of 2200 is an error but 220 sounds low to me, I think mine settles in around 400 but then I can't remember those numbers too good. All the rest of those look normal to me but your 1300 there looks a little high, but then I have a van turbo in mine so it's not a direct comparison. As for a hole in the intercooler, anything's possible but I haven't heard anyone report that one yet. Do you have a boost leak detector? They are easy to assemble. And I wouldn't have left that stinky gas out of my CCV.

Thanks for the help!
No typo lol idle is actually at two thousand degrees!
I have made a boost leak tester and I can’t find any leaks!
And yeah I didn’t realize how smelly the CCV gas was! I think I’m going to run the hose further past the cab!

Something is out of wack with that idle temp, if it's accurate you have a problem but I don't see how it can be accurate.

I mean with the key in “on” engine off the temp reads 0* so I’ve always thought that was weird, I live in south Texas and it’s 90+ most of the summer! I cleaned the probe and no changes.
idk what else to clean/replace

Replace your egt probe, and or gauge. Also make sure wiring is good.
What brand gauge do you have in now?
Is the probe in the manifold?

Will do!
The probe is tapped into the manifold.
Actually when I fiddle with the gauge the temp goes up and down and times out! But the connections are all tight..
They are Glow Shift Gauges but they don’t offer any warranty services or anything! I’ll look into replacing the wiring and probe!
Thanks for the help y’all!

May wanna do a whole new gauge as well if it acting up when you fiddle with it.
Hopefully swapping the stuff out will get you accurate readings.

Okay y’all! I feel really stupid! You were right, it was 220* not 2k!!
But the gauge does change when fiddled with! I am going to buy different brand tho I’ve had these for 3 years and the boost gauge is broken and now the EGT and they will not do anything for you!

between 200-225* is about what mine idles at when warmed up. It sounds to me like your EGT gauge is working properly.

Couple of thoughts would be make sure your air filter isnt too dusted up if it's been on there awhile. Doesn't take much to hurt performance and raise EGT's if the turbo isn't getting enough air. Next I'd look at getting a more modern tuning solution and get rid of the super chip crap. Boost looks good. You will trip the fuel cutoff if it goes up past 24 psi without an OCR or a tuning solution that deletes it.

200-225 is lower then they should idle, 300-350 pre turbo is about the lowest normal idle temps you would see

My filter is about 5 years old, freshly dusted out but do you think that’s too old?

So on tuning, I love the idea of a TS 6pos just cuz it’s simple and straightforward. But I like the custom ability of the Hydra... is there someone who can put custom tunes on a TS switch that would be equivalent to a Hydra?

And I do need to get an OCR! I didn’t know that it cut off you’re fuel but that makes sense!
What do you think of Riff Raff’s OCR?

5 years old filter belongs to crash can.
I say couple of years is max for air filter, even with low mileage.
Once in a year is a good rule of thumb with a good amount of driving.

Yes,there is good custom tuning available for TS but it means sending the chip back and forth for possible revisions etc..
Hydra is todays platform, tunes are sended by email.

Yeah, throw a new Donaldson Blue 6637 filter on your new Riff-Raff list along with the OCR and see how it does with same tuning.

You can get a 6637 pre-filter cover and drastically increase the life of the filter.

An OCR is not required with most tunes, but some do require it. I have one installed, but it was not needed.
