So, took it upon myself to fix the broken mirror on my truck and ordered a new mirror glass assembly from a Ford dealer on ebay. In the mean time I had a job this past weekend so I bought one of those mirror glass stick on replacement glass pieces, and just stuck it on the adjuster motor with the supplied double sided tape, and it worked fine, was surprisingly good quality. When I got back into town the new oem mirror glass was waiting for me. This afternoon I got around to installing it, the mirror glass assembly is surprisingly easy to install, line up the tabs and push it onto the adjuster motor, snaps right on. And, the wiring for the mirror heat was an easy deal, wire ends just slide onto the connector tabs, but the harness for the BLIS indicator light was boogered up, missing the plastic connector piece that the wires go in that snaps into the harness end on the mirror, so I was not able to connect that yet, not sure what I will do about that, Ford doesn't sell the harness by itself, only with the complete mirror. I may just cut the wire ends and hard wire it, leave the connector out of it.
Now, the issue, the new mirror assembly is distorted and makes everything blurry, and this is an original oem Ford part, not cheap aftermarket.
I have sent a message to the dealer I bought the mirror from, probably will be tomorrow before I hear anything from them.
You can see the difference between the nice clear spot mirror and the blurry main mirror.
I recently replaced both sides on my 2017 f350 that is exactly the same way. Mine were after market, I'm surprised oem is that way. I got used to the difference.
So, heard from the amarillo dealer.
They do not have another mirror in stock, but told me it has a two year Ford warranty and any dealer can replace it. They could get me another one, but then there would be back and forth shipping and the time to do all of that. Said to see my local dealer and if they had any issue to have them call and they would work it out.
So, called my local dealer, the one I have used for other warranty service, and their parts guy says they can get the mirror in one day, but I need to bring my truck up there and the warranty has to run through service, just need to see the mirror on the truck, verify the defect, get a copy of the purchase invoice and they will get me the replacement.
So much fun.
So, my local dealer, DeMontrond Ford, in Cleveland TX, ordered my new mirror, came in this morning.
So, I popped off the apparently defective mirror I got from the Amarillo dealer, and low and behold once off in my hands, the mirror didn't seem distorted.
So, dazed and confused, I took it up to the dealer and they looked it over and they said it looked fine to them, but they gave me the new replacement anyway.
I went home and went to work to install the new mirror, couldn't get the harness for the BLIS indicator, so I decided to hard wire it. The wires are very small, and I was afraid of cutting through while stripping the insulation back, but I finally got it, then connected the ends to the mirror wires and sealed the connections up.
Popped the mirror back on and all was finally well, no more distorted image, and the BLIS indicator and mirror heat both work, no more BLIS error messages on start up.
So, that ordeal is over, and just in time, have a job this weekend.
