Fuel system issue.
05 6.0 F350 KR
been losing power at running temp. It would start having no power when pressing gas. Then the truck would starve for fuel. If I pulled over everything would settle out and then repeat itself. It is acting as if the fuel pump wasn’t working right and would gravity feed. Them be fine for a bit.
so I ran on the assumption that it was a bad fuel pump. I bought a new one on amazon( yes I know), it was 180.00. Anyway, I installed it and can hear the pump running when I cycle the key. I did the whole 6x30s prime and nothing.
i took off the fuel filter cap under the hood and could not see it filling. I can hear it.
so I took the pump off and filled it with fuel to help prime it. I saw bubbles in the filter housing, then it stopped.
so now I am confused.
blocked line from tank?
just A bad pump and need to replace it again?
the Sending unit in the tank, would that cause an issue?
I do have Motorcraft filters in it.
another question, should the supply line from the tank spill when not connected? If so then I have a blockage. I just don’t know if it’s supposed to or not
Thanks again

Even if it has more fuel in it, if the foot is disintegrating, it can block the lines. With a container of diesel and some hoses, you can determine the issue. Also, I would fist reinstall the primary filter. If the filter does not go in properly, the inlet valve on the nose of the fuel pump won’t open. It’s probably not that with two HFCM having an issue. The video has info on all of this.
so given that, should I consider dropping the tank or wait to see if it happens again?
First open the cap of the upper filter housing (next to the oil filter) and switch on the ignition several times (the pump always switches pump off again). The open cap helps the pump to let the air escape from the fuel system. Fuel should then flow into the filter housing. Now check the fuel pressure with the upper filter installed.
I recently had a truck in which the pump sporadically failed to run. I also had problems bleeding the air from this truck´s fuel system. But the method with the cap removed always works (unless other faults are also present)
so given that, should I consider dropping the tank or wait to see if it happens again?
