Rebuilt engine (purrs like a big cat), cleaned up transmission. Not bad for retired music educator.
Ran it about 3 miles and died. No fuel visible in the glass filter between fuel pump and carb. Glass bowl on fuel pump full of gas. AAA got me home.
Disconnected filter, turned engine over about 15-20 seconds and no fuel evident out of fuel pump. About ¼ tank of gas.
Removed fuel pump. Rotated engine, push rod moves freely up and down. Pushed rocker arm on fuel pump and gas squirted out of fuel pump fitting (toward carburetor). Air blown into intake side of pump pushed gas out same fitting. Able to suck fuel up on gas line from fuel tank.
New fuel pump installed 10/2017.
Looking for advice before I disassemble the fuel pump to see what the diaphragm looks like.
Is your filler cap vented?
The line from the tank to the firewall is the low point of the system, and all kinds of rust and dirt collects in there. Very hard to clean it all out. There is also a brass screen on the fitting at the bottom of the tank that could be plugged. Have you cleaned out the tank? If you remove the sending unit you can see down into the tank to see what's in there.
