Ok, 3 separate times now. . See the explanation in the link.
I looked and didn’t see anything obvious so I’ll continue to monitor the issues. Yesterday was the first time a had the smell of gas and I was near the fuel door.
Wonder if it as simple as a bad gas cap.
I had this issue with a 2001 Ranger a few months back. Hardest diagnosis EVER.....Installed new gas cap, new vapor purge valve, new charcoal canister vent valve, then bought a smoke machine off Amazon after none of that worked. Leak at top of gas tank on the fuel pump retainer ring. Took the bed off, took off the retainer ring and some bonehead didn't use a gasket when they replaced it. Had the truck almost a year battling this. The PO told me his FIL replaced the fuel pump and that was then only part ever replaced on the truck (just turned 102k). Goodluck with your diagnosis and cure.
Yea Im sure the OP figured it out by now I just wanted to put what I found as one more possibility to check. You can see the cracked hose in photo.
