E4OD TCC Issue

Hi, I’m a long time lurker that’s having an annoying issue with my truck which prompted signing up for the site.

I have a 1993 F150 Lightning that I bought last fall. I put about 800 miles on it to shake down before modifying it over the winter. All was well. It has 65k miles and was entirely stock. Over the winter I put a supercharger on it with a Moates quarterhorse to control it better.

I’m having it remotely tuned and everything is great but we’ve having a hard time getting the E4OD dialed in. Well I think, anyway, as we’ve had several tune revisions and it’s still not right. Everything is good except the tcc lock up. It only seems to lock up cruising down the road when I give it about 1/3 throttle. When I let off it immediately unlocks.

What could cause this besides the ECU? I have no codes. Both tail lights are incandescent and function properly. If I don’t tap the brakes doing the KOER I get a code 536, telling me the ecu sees the BOO. Interestingly my speed control does not work either.

I’ve tapped into the purple/yellow wire from ecu pin 53 to the TCC. When I apply ground the TC locks.

Looking for advice/ideas to fix this issue. Thanks!

That's how it was designed to work. A tuner could change that.

Ok. I guess my problem is that condition is not reached cruising around town. Honestly, 1/3 throttle is an estimate. It could be closer to 1/2. With 4:10’s I have barely any throttle input so I’m riding around with the converter unlocked all of the time. I have not tried highway driving, only around town, up to 60 mph.

So you’re saying that the tuner needs to change the tp % that the converter locks?

WIth your description of things going on, are you actually in the right gear? If you have "heavy" throttle openings per the computer it might be keeping you from upshifting.

I’d take a log of the issue, then get decipha to take a look, post at efidynotuning, he’ll get it sorted.

there was an update to A1c recently.

i have all trans options broken out, if there’s a specific parameter you need help with pm me your tune and xdf, I can help, maybe.

who is doing your remote tune?

Decipha is the one doing the tune. Initially I wasn’t going to reveal that but it seems relevant now, especially since I know you’re on his forum. I know he’s one of the best and that’s why I’m concerned that there is another issue going on.

I have a Tweecer and the strategy is AHACA. I can set the converter to lock/unlock anywhere I want it to, except for reverse and first gear. I am certainly not a tuner so don't trust me, but it should be fairly simple as long as you are not trying to lock/unlock in first or reverse. Moates could be totally different than Tweecer too. Just because someone hacked into the Ford system does not mean there is some hidden strategy that prevent what a keyboard is doing. Again, I ain't no tuner so don't trust me.

Ford does seem to have some strange lock/unlock programming but they are mandated by emissions and fuel economy rules where the the amateurs can do whatever they want. I have no doubts the Ford has really good reasons why it's the way it is.
