E4OD won't lock up

E4OD won't lock up
1990 Bronco, 351, E4OD.
I noticed this while driving back from Lake Tahoe yesterday. The converter just doesn't lock up anymore. I thought the RPMs were a little high on the freeway, but managed to convince myself that it was my imagination. Once off the freeway, I noticed that it no longer locks up at about 38 mph in OD.
From reading other threads on this subject, it seems that it should be throwing a code and/or going into limp mode. It is doing neither. There are no codes, and other than not locking up, it drives absolutely fine. It shifts exactly like it always has.
I looked under it, and I couldn't get the connector off at the rear of the tranny to look at the wires. It's stuck on there real good, and the exhaust is in the way, making it very difficult to get in there and apply any pressure to the connector to pop it off.
There have been no warning signs, no convertor shudder, and the fluid was changed about 9k ago. No towing or abuse, but it gets driven to the Sierras and back several times a year. Previous owner was **** retentive about maintenance as well - almost as bad as I am.
