2004 FICM issues
2004 FICM issues
I’m working on a 2004 f-350 6.0. It has a crank no start problem, I run for codes and the only thing that pops up is a ficm Incompatibility code, with this ficm I hear all injectors clicking. I know to fix that code I will have to get it reflashed at the dealer. But I have another good running 6.0 and decided to swap ficms to see if that did anything. The incompatibility ficm started my other truck right up no problem. I put the good ficm in my non running truck and the code goes away but I only hear a few injectors clicking and it acts like it wants to start but won’t. Any ideas on what’s going on? Do I need to just take the ficm in and get it reflashed to my truck and hope that works?
I had a pretty ****ty scanner that woudnt tell me all of that just the oil pressure and fuel pressure and stuff, I want to get a new one what’s the best one for fords that will tell me all of that info?
The best one is inexpensive also. FORScan Lite for a smartphone, or the full version for a Windows laptop. The download is very cheap. Then you need an OBDII adapter. The adapter you need depends on which device you will use and if you want to be able to command actuators (only able to do that with the full version on a Windows laptop).

Download FORSCan from their home page ..............

That web page link lists supported adapters also.
What device are you going to install it on? A windows laptop?
If so, the adapter I recommend is lined below:
https://www.obdlink.com/products/obd...x/?ref=forscan
Or you can get a decent one a bit cheaper:
If an i-phone, I would recommend this one, but it is somewhat expensive (but nice):

That said, I still use a cheaper ELM327 WiFi adapter from BAFX with some limited functionality, but it still works well enough to retrieve PCM PIDs and codes. Do a search here and others will say what they are using.

With forscan lite on a smart phone you can buzz injectors and see live data. It works excellent.
If you go the FORSCAN route, it's probably best to use the OBDLink adapters as Mark has pointed out -- I have their WIFI, BT, and SX (hard wired) adapters and they've held up well. Basically, you don't need to spend a lot of money like the rest of us on IDS, Launch, Snap On, etc, Forscan will suffice. Like most parts on this vehicle (e.g. substituting a Bosch relay for the Ford FICM relay at 1/3rd the cost) you can find a substitute that will Git R Done.
