UnLock My Crash Box?
I was installing the shift lever on my 51 F3 and I seemed to have locked up the tranny.
I initially placed the shifter in the top piece lining up the pin with the indent in the ball of shifter, I moved it shifting the gears without screwing down the holding cup.
The gearbox engaged and seemed to be moving throughout the shift pattern however it was loose and as I moved the shifter sideways the box seemed to have locked up, frozen stiff. I could no longer move the shift lever.
I took out the lever reinstalled it with pin aligned and then secured the screw cup top, no change it is frozen.
I thought the remedy is to take off the top plate that holds the shift tower and free things up but I’m thinking that likely won’t come off freely because it too is frozen?
Remedy? Should I jack up rear wheels off the ground and try to muscle the drive train hoping it will loosen up or might that make things worse? Sme with trying to bump it with starter motor?
I appreciate suggestions.
