t19 shift lever?

t19 shift lever?
I have an 87 6.9 xlt lariat w/ a t19. I've committed to my 1st ever clutch job & have run into a snag. I cannot figure out how to detach the shift lever!! I am ready to drop the tranny, but this has me baffled. The lever has a sqare female sleeve with two red tabs resembling push tabs, but I can't get it to budge. What's the secret?

what are you refering to when you say shift lever the actual shifter the four wheeldrive shifter???

I'm refering to the shifter on the transmission. the t-case shifter was bolted on.-no problem there.

The instructions in my manual say shift the lever into 2nd gear, remove the lock pin and remove shifter from housing. I'm not seeing any lock pin.

I just ran outside to look at my truck. Get your self a pair of plyers and take the ball looking thing push it down with the plters and turn it. I can take picks to show you how if you need them

thanks farmall that was the ticket! funny the manual didn't mention this. now I can get on with it!
