Yes it can and has come apart with that much force. It is not just my imagination.
The bracket first came out as an alignment tool that came with International's one-piece fitting.
In Ford's early kits (after they gave up on the bracket alone), they gave metal brackets. Soon afterwards though, they went to plastic alignment brackets with the update kits. International kits always had the metal brackets. Was the plastic that much of a savings over the metal - well, obviously it was.
Wow, very interesting. And without a doubt the plastic was cheaper than that weldment. Great information…..guess I’ll keep that bracket in my special tools drawer!
Got the oil cooler out, housing cleaned up and replaced. The old screen was broken, but that wasn’t surprising. The new Chinesium cooler looks good with the Ford made mostly in the USA gaskets. EGR device added for good measure.
A little bit more work on the super before work. Took me off and on 3 days to get the intake cleaned up. The parts washer at work wouldn’t get out a lot of the sludge from inside the intake. Spent a lot of time with brake clean, rags, and various implements of destruction to get it mostly out. It’s not perfect, but no chunks of that tarry crap remains. I have to decide how to reroute the CCV. eliminating exhaust gases from the intake should allow it to stay cleaner.
Got the pipes wrapped and loosely fitted. Need to rework the wiring some before I go any further. The loom is broken and chaffed in certain areas. The tape is also oil soaked and coming apart. I’ll get this all cleaned up next.
Looking at your pic in post 13 , EGR cooler blue hose , I didn't know you can use org. blue hose on the new J pipe , will it leak ?
Nice Job so far .
Funny you bring it up, because I noticed the old orange hose in earlier picts and thought about saying to Chuck he should swap it out to the newer blue one - no need as he had that covered! The blue doesn't leak...

The J pipe is the same exact diameter as the original EGR cooler inlet pipe so I decided to use the oem style hose connection. I have seen several of the silicon hoses with worm clamps leak over time. My experience…..worm gear clamps work great on barbed fittings, smooth connections like this, not so much.
And here I had the orig blue hose and didn't use it , after my leak did find these clamps that did not tear up the hose.
Gator brand clamps from COMP Cams , The edges of the band are rolled to prevent them from damaging the hose. This is especially important on silicone hoses that have a soft
I wish I could give you an exact part, but I use the blue OE hose on mine.
I get a wide assortment of constant tension clamps from McMaster, as you can see from the purple coloration of the ones I have ordered. Here's a picture of one of my boxes.
I also get them from Clips and Fasteners, direct, or Amazon.
Got the pump put back together, but not without some deep thinking, lol. Maybe someone can confirm my theory. I was certain someone had been in this pump before, since one of the heat shield tabs was cut off the cover. There was a brace that was installed over the STC fitting. My theory is this may have been a recall or tech bulletin to keep that fitting from falling apart. Was this Ford’s fix before the upgraded fitting was available? I think it was because the bolts that were included in the Ford upgrade kit were too short to go through this bracket. I saw a video where DTR mentioned checking the area in the block behind the STC fitting for cracks. Did the STC fitting fly apart with enough force to crack the pump cavity in the block? Did Ford realize this and instruct their mechanics to install this brace?
I looked at several videos and didn’t see anyone remove this bracket on any truck. I certainly didn’t see anyone install an upgraded fitting then install this bracket. I chose to follow the lead of everyone in the videos and remove it completely which enabled me to use the hardware that came with the kit.
im currently doing much the same jobs you are. thanks for the thread its helped me from asking redundant questions. i purchased my truck new in 05 and it was in the shop a couple times. fast fwd to today and im changing oil cooler, o rings etc. i like you was hoping my SCT fitting had been replaced back in 06 but it looks as they just installed the bracket like you had. do you happen to have the part # to the ford updated fitting and install kit? thank you.

I bought the kit from KC Turbos since I also bought a balanced turbo DIY kit. It was actually cheaper through them since I could combine the shipping. The kit in the pictures is one I was going to buy before I realized KC sells a lot of 6.0 parts. Just make sure whatever you buy is a genuine Ford kit like pictured above. I would not risk a sub par gasket this deep in the engine.
@steelmanjim I have a part number for the STC one piece fitting of: 4C3Z-9B246-F - but this is from 2015 or so, there may be a later one. Back then the kit came with o-rings and a new IPR screen...
Gotta' be quick around here! I see Chuck has you covered...
