For $250 I'd expect the material to be metal, aluminum alloy at a minimum. There's no way I'm paying that kind of money on something that's made of plastic. But, that's just me.

I’d be concerned about that too. The caps look solid from the top, not so much from below.

Based on the design I don't think aluminum would work well at all. Potentially spring steel could work.

Regardless, I like the caps and think they should do what I want them to do.

If BEM had made a set for the older trucks, I probably would have already had a set...

So seeing how NO one else makes a locking DEF cap for my gen truck, I jumped on board because the Stant locking fuel cap is working and a lot cheaper, but I wanted a lockable set and having a set that will be used with a uncommon key... Is it fool proof? Probably NOT but I'm sure these will cause a street thug to go on to the next truck. The price for admission wasn't cheap but it was the only option for my truck. My truck wasn't cheap, owning a diesel truck and maintaining one isn't cheap so 250 bucks wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Yep I was aware of the fuel locking cap after I already had my Stant cap and it does look to be a quality piece... glad I didn't buy it because now I will have SET for both the fuel and DEF caps with the same key.

I recognize this as the inside of the fuel door in my truck... and no DEF locking cap.

This is what I wanted... a locking cap for the DEF as well. I would have most likely already bought these and been using this 17+ Ford set if they made them for my truck. I do see this note on the Amazon product listing page:

Product Description

Locking diesel and DEF caps combo for Ford trucks with 6.7 L POWERSTROKE engine. This is designed for the 2017 model year. This is compatible with 2012-2014 filler necks, and 2017-2019 filler necks. SOME 2015, 2016 and 2020 filler necks are compatible. Check carefully.
  • !!!NOT compatible with 2021, 2022 or 2023 models!!!

I think I get what you're saying, because of the one photo showing and early truck without a locking DEF cap, you took that as meaning the DEF cap doesn't fit? If that is true, they really should include a note saying, DEF Cap DOES NOT FIT X Years. It is a combo set, that would lead me to believe both items being sold are compatible with the years listed.

You did get a good, possibly better alternative, I just didn't know if you were aware that BEM actually (possibly) did have an option for the earlier trucks.

When I started looking for the combo set, for my gen truck, the BEM set for the 17s plus popped up. I did want both and a better option for the plastic Stant locking fuel cap.. appreciate the input. I cannot remember how I searched but I believe I used the terms DEF locking cap for my gen truck...

Definitely fits on a 15 model - I have them both and they fit well.

I never thought to ask you about that since we have the same gen truck...

I like the idea of a quarter turn.

After looking back at these comments, while the Subtle Design set is more expensive, I like the quarter turn locks as well, like the Stant locking fuel cap it will replace...

Caps came in yesterday... They come with 3 keys.

I will admit the plastic fingers that grip and then lock onto the fill ports or openings, are not impressive but what happens is once they are on and over the opening, you have to push down which not only forces the inside round piece that goes into the opening, which they have an O-ring on them, it also forces the outer cap over those fingers...

In fact, the DEF cap fingers had to manually pushed out so they go over the threads to the end. Once that was done, it pushed down and locked on with a quarter turn like the fuel cap.

While this was NOT a cheap option, I like having a lockable DEF cap and on the plus side it's a quarter turn. With that said, if I would have known the BEM set, that I read was for the 17 plus trucks, I more than likely would have gone with a set from BEM.
